Delta APC carpets Gov Oborevwori for shifting responsibility on insecurity to FG, says he is insensitive to Deltans plight 

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for deflecting responsibility for the worsening security situation in the state onto the Federal Government. The party condemned the governor's approach as inept and insensitive to the plight of Deltans who are currently grappling with a surge in kidnappings and other violent crimes.   This reaction follows a statement made by Governor Oborevwori, represented by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, at a thanksgiving ceremony for former Delta Commissioner Joan Onyemaechi Ada Anioma, who was recently kidnapped in Asaba. During the event, the governor called on the Federal Government to address the rising insecurity in the country.   In a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the Delta APC expressed dismay that despite the billions of naira allocated to security in the state, many communities remain under siege by kidnapping gangs and cultists. The APC accused the Oborevwori administration of treating the issue of insecurity with "nonchalance" and failing to protect the lives and property of Deltans.   Titled "Delta State Government Ineptitude Responsible for Worsening Insecurity," the statement criticized the governor’s administration for its repeated attempts to shift blame for its failures onto others. The APC emphasized that as the chief executive and chief security officer of Delta State, Governor Oborevwori has a constitutional responsibility to ensure the safety of citizens and should adopt proactive measures to combat insecurity rather than making excuses.   The APC further pointed out that contrary to claims by the Deputy Governor that Delta State is peaceful, the state has become notorious for kidnapping and other forms of violent crime. The party highlighted that from Asaba to Warri, and in communities like Ughelli, Egbo, and Sapele, the fear of kidnappings and cultism has become a daily reality, forcing residents to "sleep with one eye open."   The APC found it ironic and disturbing that the governor, through his deputy, chose to make light of the state’s insecurity at an event celebrating the survival of a kidnap victim, rather than addressing the administration's failures.   The party also criticized the state government for its lack of a clear policy direction and its failure to address youth unemployment, which has exacerbated the security crisis. Many unemployed youths in Delta State have turned to criminal activities, such as kidnapping and armed robbery, as a means of survival.   The APC questioned the effectiveness of the Delta State Security Trust Fund, led by former State House of Assembly member Hon. Daniel Mayuku, accusing it of being another mechanism for funneling state resources to members of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) rather than addressing the security needs of the state.   “Undoubtedly, these are difficult times for Deltans who are desperately in need of answers to the ever rising case of insecurity in the State as the State Governor Hon Sheriff Oborevwori from all indications, appears to have shirked his responsibilities in finding lasting solutions to the lingering issue of insecurity that is now having an overwhelming and crippling effect on the economy of the State, particularly the social and night life in the State as residents no longer feel safe to visit their favorite relaxation spots.   The Delta APC urged Governor Oborevwori to take immediate and decisive action to address the deteriorating security situation in the state, rather than shifting the burden to the Federal Government. The party warned that the ongoing insecurity is having a crippling effect on the state’s economy and social life, leaving residents feeling unsafe even in their own communities.   “The APC Delta State is therefore calling on the State Governor Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to take urgent steps in addressing the deteriorating security situation in State rather shifting the responsibility to the federal government.”
