The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has frowned at the recent remarks credited to Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in which he claimed that the opposition party lacks credible candidates for the 2027 election.
The party dismissed Ossai’s statement as baseless and an attempt to distract from what it described as the governor’s poor performance in office.
In a statement issued on Monday by its State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., and made available to newsmen, the APC accused the Oborevwori-led administration of gross underperformance despite receiving over ₦1.5 trillion in federal allocations and internally generated revenue since assuming office in May 2023. The party argued that instead of tangible development, Deltans have been left disillusioned by the deteriorating state of infrastructure and governance.
"It is laughable that Ossai Ovie would attempt to downplay the credibility of APC in Delta when his principal has shown nothing but incompetence in governance," the statement read.
"How can an administration that has mismanaged over a trillion naira in less than a year boast about performance? Deltans are groaning under the deplorable conditions of our roads, while infrastructural decay persists across the state."
The APC further asserted that Ossai’s remarks reflect the ruling People's Democratic Party’s (PDP) growing anxiety over the 2027 elections, as public discontent with its decades-long rule continues to mount. The party claimed that the daily defection of PDP members to the APC is a clear sign that Deltans have lost confidence in Oborevwori’s leadership.
"We challenge the Oborevwori-led government to present a transparent account of how it has spent over ₦1.5 trillion since taking office. The people deserve to know why their lives have not improved despite the huge resources at the government’s disposal," the statement added.
The APC reassured the people of Delta State that it remains committed to fielding a credible, competent, and people-focused candidate in 2027 who will prioritize genuine development and good governance.
"With trillions in federal allocations and revenues received from the combined period of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the present administration, Delta should be experiencing unprecedented development. Instead, we see stagnation, misplaced priorities, and reckless spending without any iota of fiscal responsibility. Governor Oborevwori has proven to be a carbon copy of Okowa and his failures, and no amount of propaganda can cover up the reality on the ground."
As defections from the PDP to the APC continue, the party urged Deltans to remain vigilant and resolute in holding the Oborevwori administration accountable. It reiterated its commitment to providing a credible alternative in 2027 with a formidable candidate capable of breaking what it termed "PDP’s cycle of failure" and delivering governance centered on accountability, development, and the overall welfare of the people.
