Dele Momodu’s Advice to EFCC Chairman: Learn from Predecessors’ Mistakes and Avoid Selective Prosecution

PDP chieftain Dele Momodu shared his thoughts on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) handling of the case against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
He criticized the anti-graft agency for its approach and urged its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, to learn from the experiences of his predecessors, who were “booted out ignominiously.”
Momodu expressed concern over the issue of selective prosecution, stating that it is unacceptable for the EFCC to have to be told who can be prosecuted and who cannot.
He emphasized the importance of the rule of law and advised President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the agency follows the law, rather than succumbing to the pressures of those who may not be there for him in the future.
The veteran journalist also pointed out that there are many criminals in the system to prosecute, but the agency’s focus on just one person is getting personal.
He mentioned that, as a Christian, he does not hate anybody and would always defend the rights of everyone to a fair hearing, even if he has something against the person.
Momodu referenced his favorite book, The Rights of Man by Thomas Paine, as an influence on his belief in the importance of defending the rights of all individuals.
He reiterated his position that he does not have anything against Yahaya Bello and that, as long as the former governor is tried properly, he has no issue with the outcome of the case.
Dele Momodu’s statements serve as a reminder of the importance of the rule of law and the need for the EFCC to carry out its duties without bias or selective prosecution.
