Datti Baba-Ahmed denies Supreme Court confirmed Tinubu’s 2023 election victory

The running mate of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has declared that the Supreme Court did not confirm the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as many people think.

He said that the highest court in the land only endorsed the unlawful declaration made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He made this statement on Monday evening, when he was a guest on Arise TV, shortly after his leader, Peter Obi, spoke to the press about the result of the legal process following the election.

He said they did not accept the Supreme Court judgement and considered it invalid.

Peter Obi had approached the apex court to challenge the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld INEC’s announcement of Tinubu as the winner of the election.

The apex court, in its verdict, agreed with the PEPT’s decision, confirming Tinubu as the legitimately elected president.

“Please quote me on this: the Appeal and Supreme Courts did not confirm Tinubu’s presidency. They only endorsed the unlawfulness of INEC’s announcement,” Datti Baba-Ahmed said on Arise TV.

“We accepted the judgement because it was the final step for HE Peter Obi and I to take; we did not accept it and considered it invalid.
