Dangote Refinery Ready to Kick-Start Production After Receiving Sixth 1 Million Barrels of Crude Oil

In a major development for Nigeria’s oil industry, the Dangote Refinery has announced that it is now ready to begin refining operations after receiving its sixth consignment of one million barrels of crude oil.

The last shipment of crude oil, which arrived on January 8, 2024, completes the initial six million barrels required for the facility’s commencement of operations.

The Dangote Refinery, a $19 billion project, is set to become the largest single-train refinery in the world, with a capacity to process 650,000 barrels per day.

The facility, which is expected to play a key role in easing fuel supply challenges in Nigeria and other West African countries, will initially produce diesel, aviation fuel, and liquid petroleum gas before moving on to petrol production.

The refinery, built to process a variety of crude grades, including Nigerian crude, Middle Eastern Arab Light, and even US Light tight oil, is poised to transform Nigeria’s oil industry, which has long been plagued by fuel shortages and reliance on imports.

The Dangote Refinery is expected to meet 100% of Nigeria’s requirement for refined petroleum products, with a surplus for export.

As the refinery prepares to begin operations, industry experts and stakeholders eagerly await the impact it will have on Nigeria’s economy and the broader West African region.

The successful start of refining operations at the Dangote Refinery marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards energy independence and self-sufficiency.
