Customs in Kebbi Seizes N126M Worth of Drugs and Contraband Goods in Two Months

The Nigeria Customs Service in Kebbi state has made significant strides in its anti-smuggling operations, seizing illicit drugs and contraband goods worth N126 million within a two-month period.

The seized items include 39 lumps of Indian hemp, 212 bags of foreign parboiled rice, and other contraband goods.

Comptroller of Customs, Mr Ernest Iheanacho Ojike, announced the successful seizures during a press briefing on Friday.

The operation was a result of the combined efforts of the intelligence unit and joint patrol team, showcasing the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to curb smuggling activities in the region.

In addition to the seizures, the Customs Service in Kebbi has also generated N7 million in revenue since the reopening of the Kamba border.

However, the Comptroller noted that there has been a ban on grain importation to ensure food security in the country, which may impact revenue generation in the short term.

The Customs Service in Kebbi has also demonstrated its commitment to collaboration with other agencies by handing over seized expired items and hard drugs to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The state coordinator for NAFDAC, Alhaji Muyideen Sulaiman, expressed gratitude for the collaboration and pledged that the seized items would be properly disposed of to protect the public.

As the Customs Service in Kebbi continues its efforts to combat smuggling and protect the public, the strong relationship with NAFDAC and NDLEA is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the state’s residents.

The recent seizures and the ongoing collaboration between the agencies serve as a testament to the effectiveness of their joint efforts in combating illicit activities.
