Cross River and Ebonyi States Join Forces to Prevent Land Encroachments and Violence

The governments of Cross River and Ebonyi States have agreed to regularly sensitize their borderline communities to refrain from any form of encroachment.

This decision was made in a 5-point communique adopted by officials from both states and signed by the Deputy Governors of Cross River State and Ebonyi State yesterday in the Ebonyi deputy governor’s office in Abakaliki.

The two deputy governors, who also serve as the chairmen of their states’ Boundary Committees, acknowledged that the sensitization is an initial step while they await the delineation of the boundaries by the National Boundary Commission (NBC).

They have urged the NBC to expedite the process in order to restore peace and prevent further loss of life and property in these communities.

In addition to the sensitization efforts, the states have agreed to establish joint security teams to patrol the affected areas.

This move aims to ensure the safety of the communities and prevent any further escalation of violence.

Cross River and Ebonyi States have been embroiled in a protracted boundary dispute along the border corridors of Ndiagu Amagu, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi and Adadama, Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The dispute has led to several instances of violence and loss of life over the years.

The joint effort by the two states to address the issue is a positive step towards resolving the longstanding conflict and fostering peace and cooperation between the neighboring communities.

It is hoped that the sensitization efforts, coupled with the joint security patrols and the eventual boundary delineation by the NBC, will bring an end to the violence and pave the way for peaceful coexistence among the people of Cross River and Ebonyi States.
