Creative Economy Minister Musawa Seeks Soyinka’s Support for Nigeria’s Literary Art Preservation

In a meeting with renowned playwright and Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka, Creative Economy Minister Hannatu Musawa sought his support in preserving Nigeria’s rich literary art.

The visit aimed to tap into Soyinka’s wealth of experience in promoting the nation’s cultural heritage.

Musawa emphasized the importance of preserving literary works, particularly in a country with a vibrant cultural content that includes music, films, fashion, and literary arts.

She highlighted the government’s commitment to formulating policies to combat piracy and plagiarism, ensuring that Nigeria’s literary legacy remains intact.

The minister also discussed initiatives to encourage the younger generation to embrace and celebrate their cultural identity, artistic and creative development, and opportunities for collaboration and innovation in the creative economy.

She stressed the importance of cultural diplomacy and utilizing arts and culture as tools for international diplomacy and promoting the nation’s cultural diversity on the global stage.

Soyinka expressed delight in the visit and shared his interest in culture and literary arts, emphasizing the interconnected nature of cultures.

He called for a conscious effort to preserve the culture and traditions of the Nigerian people, including promoting indigenous languages and cultures to preserve morals and values across the country.

The Nobel Laureate, who considers himself an artist and a creative person, stressed the importance of returning the spirituality to Africa by returning all the looted works.

He believes in opening up certain horizons for human striving through the work of writers, musicians, painters, sculptors, and artists.

The Creative Economy Minister anticipates a meaningful collaboration with Soyinka and looks forward to the potential collaboration for the advancement of arts, culture, and the creative economy in Nigeria.
