Court Remands Adeleke’s Appointee Over Alleged Terrorism, Unlawful Killing

Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has remanded Governor Ademola Adeleke’s appointee, Oyeyemi Olalekan, in Ileaa Correctional Center over alleged acts of terrorism and other serious offenses.

Olalekan, a member of the Osun State Transport Management System, was also charged with conspiracy, unlawful killing, and malicious damage.

The charges against Olalekan, also known as “Emir,” stem from alleged crimes committed between February and November 2022.

The defendant was accused of unlawfully shooting one Oyewale Sharif to death in the Ayetoro area of Osogbo on November 28, 2022.

He was also alleged to have killed one Tope and Muraina Olayiwole at CMS junction on February 27, 2022, and shot Tajudeen Rabiu to death at Ayepe, Ilesa garage, Osogbo, on August 5, 2022.

The alleged offenses contravene the provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2013.

During his initial arraignment on Wednesday, Olalekan pleaded not guilty to the charges. His counsel, Edmund Biriomoni, presented a bail application to the court.

However, at the resumption of his bail hearing on Thursday, the prosecution led by Rabiu Usman requested an adjournment to file an objection to the defendant’s bail.

Justice Emmanuel Ayoola ordered that the defendant be remanded at the correctional center and adjourned the case to March 19, allowing the prosecution to file their counter-bail application and for a hearing to take place.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts to address acts of terrorism and other serious crimes in Nigeria, as well as the importance of ensuring due process and a fair trial for all individuals.
