Court remands 2 men over alleged kidnap attempt

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, ordered that two men,  Nathan Cletus, 35 and Oscar Williams, 38, be remanded in a Correctional facility for alleged kidnap attempt.

The defendants both residents of millennium city, Kaduna, were charged with criminal conspiracy and attempted kidnap.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel did not take the plea of the suspects due to lack of jurisdiction.

Emmauel directed the police to return the case filed to the Kaduna State Directorate of Public Prosecution, (DPP).

He, thereafter, adjourned the matter until May. 15, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants and others at large, on Feb. 20, at about 1 p.m along Maraba Rido Road, attempted to kidnap two ladies.

Leo said that the defendants were using a black coloured Honda car with Reg No: AZM 511 GK.

He said the defendants offered the ladies ride in their car, while they waiting for a commercial vehicle, when they refused, the defendants tried to forced them into the car.

Leo further said the ladies raised alarm and the defendants were caught and handed over to the police while the others ran away.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 412 and 516 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State.
