Dr Eyiseifa Ebiowe wants Nicholas Mutu out of parliament. The APC chieftain from Bomadi says the lawmaker should stop seeking re-election immediately.

Mutu has represented Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency since 1999. That's nearly three decades in the National Assembly, Ebiowe noted in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.

According to the Bomadi political figure, Mutu's record is shocking. In 27 years—soon to be 28—he hasn't introduced or sponsored a single bill, Ebiowe alleged.

"His official record in the Hansard remains at zero for bills and other recorded contributions," Ebiowe told reporters. He questioned how anyone could sit in parliament for a generation without making any legislative impact.

Ebiowe painted a damning picture of inactivity. Mutu rarely speaks at plenary sessions or committee meetings, the APC leader said, adding he merely "occupies space" in the chamber.

The criticism extends to Mutu's decade-long tenure as House Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Committee. From 2009 to 2019, those years were "lost to the locusts," according to Ebiowe's scathing assessment.

Ebiowe described the period as unremarkable and unproductive. "Ten years of sloth and upheaval," he said of Mutu's leadership at the NDDC.

More broadly, Ebiowe accused Mutu of failing his people entirely. The lawmaker has contributed nothing significant to national discourse or development, he argued.

In his words, "indolence alone cannot fully explain such catastrophic failure." Rather, Ebiowe suggested Mutu simply lacks the capacity to perform his duties effectively.

Ebiowe called on the legislator to vacate his seat. He said it's time to make room for "a more worthy" representative from the federal constituency.

The APC chieftain stressed that Nigeria needs active, productive lawmakers now. "Indolence cannot be a virtue in these times of urgent crave for development," he stated firmly.

Ebiowe also invoked Mutu's cultural heritage as a point of comparison. Men and women from the same Ijaw background—including John Pepper Clark, Prof.

Alfred Opubor, and Chief Edwin Clark—had made remarkable contributions to Nigeria.

Those accomplished figures demonstrated what was possible from their region. Mutu's performance stood in stark contrast, Ebiowe suggested.

He questioned how Mutu could represent his people without presenting any ideas or legislative goals. "He is just sitting idle and being of no use to the house and his constituency," Ebiowe said bluntly.

According to the political activist, Mutu epitomizes an old order that must step aside. Nigeria needs fresh energy and new approaches to governance, he maintained.

Ebiowe's statement represents growing frustration among constituents with long-serving legislators. The call comes as pressure mounts on aging parliamentarians to make way for new voices.
