COAS Announces New Welfare Initiatives for Nigerian Army Personnel

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has announced the implementation of new welfare initiatives aimed at boosting the morale of Nigerian Army personnel.

These initiatives include the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) Scheme and the reinvigoration of complimentary welfare flights for North-East troops.

During the First Quarter Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Conference 2024 in Abuja, Lagbaja highlighted the importance of these measures in improving the lives of soldiers and their families.

The AHOOAS Scheme aims to ease the burden soldiers face in securing personal accommodation during post-service life.

Additionally, the Nigerian Army will cover all housing expenses at 100 per cent for soldiers with operational-related disabilities, making the scheme more inclusive and sensitive to the needs of these soldiers.

The COAS also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in enhancing the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

He urged field commanders and troops across various theatres of operations to remain committed to bringing adversaries to their knees and restoring peace in troubled areas.

Lagbaja emphasized the need to continue strengthening operational capabilities, enhance intelligence gathering, foster inter-agency cooperation, and prioritize the welfare of personnel.

He also stressed the importance of professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights in all operations.

During the conference, the COAS presented 13 new Toyota Hilux vehicles to another set of Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMSs) and inaugurated the remodelled conference hall at the Army Headquarters Command Mess 1, Asokoro Abuja.

These efforts underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel and enhancing the nation’s security agenda.
