Liverpool couldn't break down Chelsea's defence on Saturday, settling for a 1-1 draw at Anfield in Premier League action.

The result ended Chelsea's nightmare run of six straight league losses. But it also dashed both teams' hopes of securing their season objectives.

Ryan Gravenberch fired the hosts ahead in the sixth minute with a stunning strike from distance. The Dutch midfielder controlled Rio Ngumoha's pass before unleashing a powerful shot into the far corner.

Liverpool should've made it 2-0 shortly after. Captain Virgil van Dijk wasted a golden opportunity at the back post when the goal was at his mercy.

Chelsea responded by seizing control of the match. Enzo Fernandez levelled the score on 35 minutes with a low free kick that caught everyone off guard and nestled in the bottom corner.

Cody Gakpo was adjudged offside in the buildup when Curtis Jones had the ball in the net for Liverpool. The goal was correctly ruled out by VAR.

Both teams pushed hard for a winner in an entertaining second half. Dominik Szoboszlai and van Dijk each struck the woodwork with opportunities they couldn't convert.

Goalkeepers held firm as neither side managed another breakthrough. The final whistle drew boos from frustrated Anfield supporters.

Liverpool's defensive woes continued on the day. They've now conceded 47 goals this season, making them the first defending champions to reach that tally since Leicester in 2016/17.

Manager Arne Slot's team sits fourth with 59 points from 36 matches. They hold a one-point advantage over Aston Villa in fifth place.

Chelsea stays ninth on 49 points with two matches remaining. They're three points adrift of the European qualification places.
