Candidates to know fate soon over the suspended 2015 recruitment in Delta

The Delta State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, said the candidates whose appointments were suspended in 2015 over irregularities may soon know their fate as screening committee report has been submitted to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for approval.

Mr Bayoko stated this in Asaba why reacting to an allegation that the state government had jettisoned the report of the committee set up to screen the suspended candidates and recommend for appointment of those qualified.

He gave an assurance that the re-absorption of some of the candidates would be affected when the state governor was satisfied with the committee’s report.

The head of service said that Governor Okowa had sincere motive when he said his administration would revisit the suspended employment of over nine hundred candidates.

“The allegation cannot be correct. It was the governor who suspended the exercise and it was him who also said he would revisit the exercise which he is doing. I don’t think at any time, the governor actually gave a firm date, so we cannot be talking of unnecessary delay. He is currently studying the report presented to him and as soon as he is satisfied with the report, the absorption of the suspended civil servants will be effected,’’ Bayoko hinted.

He said efforts were being intensified to reposition the state civil service for efficiency and improved productivity through training and retraining of civil servants.

‘’Capacity building is ongoing. Many staff have approvals to further their education from school certificate to graduate, post graduate levels both locally and overseas,’’ Bayoko said.

He stated further that no stone would be left unturned to restore the core values of civil service.

It would be recalled, that the affected candidates recently staged series of protests urging Governor Okowa to reabsorb them into the civil service.

Worried over the plights of those affected, coupled with appeals from well spirited Deltans, Governor Okowa constituted a committee to screen the suspended candidates with a view to identifying those who met the criteria for civil service appointments. 

Recently, the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa employed fresh one thousand graduate teachers to fill the huge shortfall of teachers in the state public primary and secondary schools estimated to be about 10,000.
