Bwala: Supreme Court decisions are inconsistent

Daniel Bwala, former spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has said there are cases where two decisions by the Supreme Court are contradictory.

Daniel Bwala said this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today. He said, “Our electoral jurisprudence is reaching a point where it is not about what you know. The court is still predictable without prejudice to what you know or what the obvious decision is, regardless of the matter.

“The reason I say this is because at every level of appeal, you can show two decisions by the same court that are conflicting.” That is why some of us have started proposing with respect to the Supreme Court that the constitution of Nigeria be amended to address two issues. If the Supreme Court makes a mistake, is the law final because it’s the last court? There needs to be a constitutional provision that says if the Supreme Court gives a judgement, both the petitioner and the respondent will know the outcome of the matter.

“The second one is that the Supreme Court is bound by the previous decisions. Tomorrow I can go to the Supreme Court so that they may choose to go this way. The next day, another group of people will come, and the court will go the other way.
