BVAS: The Game Changer in Nigeria’s Electoral Process, According to Osun REC Agboke

In a visit by the Osun Online Publishers Association to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) state office, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, discussed the significant impact of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) on Nigeria’s electoral process.

According to Agboke, BVAS has been a game changer in bringing sanity to the country’s elections, despite ongoing challenges such as vote buying and election violence.

Dr. Agboke highlighted the importance of continued voter education and engagement with stakeholders, including political parties, to address these issues.

He emphasized that while the introduction of BVAS has been a significant step forward, there is still room for improvement and further development to address public perceptions and concerns.

“Vote buying and election violence are still common problems encountered during the electioneering process,” said Agboke. “Stakeholders are not facing the reality of electioneering violence and allowing it to go.”

He stressed the need for continued engagement with the public to address these issues, encouraging them to reject vote buying and stand against election violence.

The Osun REC also outlined his plans to engage with media houses, political parties, and the electorate in the coming months to address concerns and improve the electoral process.

He noted that voter education is a continuous exercise and that it is crucial for political parties to educate their members and encourage confidence in the electoral process.

Dr. Agboke’s statements underscore the importance of maintaining and improving the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system.

With the introduction of innovations such as BVAS, the country is making strides in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections.

However, there is still work to be done to address the challenges of vote buying and election violence, and continued engagement and education are key to achieving this goal.
