In a bold political alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, have formally adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for re-election.
The declaration was made during a high-level strategic meeting hosted at the country home of former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, in Ogboagbene community.
Elder Orubebe, who was unanimously named the national leader of Ijaw APC in Delta State, expressed joy at the new political unity, saying the era of outsmarting opponents has given way to collective purpose.
"Today is one of my happiest days. In the past, I would strategize to beat the opposition, but now we are all in one party—APC. There’s no old or new member here. We must all be loyal to the system that has given us the president, the governor, and the council chairman," Orubebe said.
He praised the convergence of leaders across party lines, calling it a progressive step for both the state and the nation. “Now that we’re united, let’s support one another. That’s the only road to Canaanland,” he added.
Addressing internal divisions in Burutu politics, Orubebe urged leaders to drop rivalry and embrace unity to maximize development gains. “Some of the best political minds are here in Burutu, yet we’ve been divided by blackmail and sycophancy. That must stop today,” he declared.
On his relationship with the state government, Orubebe revealed that he has already tabled the needs of the Ijaw people before Governor Oborevwori and is confident that key demands will be addressed before 2031.
The highlight of the meeting was the unanimous adoption of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori as the APC’s candidates for 2027. The motion was raised by Barr. B.O. Ekpese and seconded by Mr. Ignatius Kiakia, with representatives from all 11 wards in attendance.
With this strategic realignment, Burutu APC appears poised for a united front, setting the stage for a major political shift in the Delta region.
