A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Saturday in Durumi, near Gudu Market in Abuja's Area 3. The incident claimed five lives, though one person was pulled alive from the rubble.
Dolapo Fasawe, the FCT Health Mandate Secretary, personally provided care to the survivor before evacuation to hospital. Eleven others are currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the disaster.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has ordered that all victims receive free medical care. According to a statement from his spokesman Lere Olayinka, the sole survivor had been trapped beneath the debris for over nine hours before rescue.
Authorities have not yet released details about the circumstances leading to the building's collapse. Investigations into the incident are expected to commence shortly.
