Binance CEO Located in Kenya After Fleeing Nigeria, Faces Extradition

The Nigerian government has located Binance CEO Nadeem Anjarwalla in Kenya after he fled Nigeria amidst charges of $35.4 million money laundering and tax evasion.

The government is actively working with Kenyan authorities and international organizations to extradite Anjarwalla back to Nigeria to face the legal proceedings against him.

In a significant development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken over the prosecution of Binance and its executives, including Anjarwalla and Tigran Gambaryan.

The Nigerian government is collaborating with various international agencies such as the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the governments of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya to facilitate Anjarwalla’s extradition.

Gambaryan, one of the executives, is currently in EFCC custody, while Anjarwalla, who fled Nigeria, has been located in Kenya.

The Nigerian government has initiated the extradition process to bring Anjarwalla back to the country to face charges alongside Binance and Gambaryan.

The charges against Binance and its executives include operating a specialized financial institution without a valid license, engaging in financial activities without proper authorization, and negotiating foreign exchange rates in Nigeria’s autonomous foreign exchange market unlawfully.

Additionally, they are accused of conspiring to conceal the origin of the proceeds of their unlawful activities, amounting to $35.4 million, and failing to register with the Federal Inland Revenue Service to pay taxes.

The case has drawn attention from various international agencies, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in tackling financial crimes.

The Nigerian government’s efforts to extradite Anjarwalla and prosecute Binance and its executives represent a strong stance against financial crimes and a commitment to upholding the rule of law in the financial sector.
