Benue State Takes Charge: Powering Up Socio-Economic Development Through Self-Owned Electricity Plant

The Benue State government has announced its plans to establish its own power plant.

The initiative, conceived by the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), aims to leverage the recent Federal Government’s bill granting state governments access to own and manage their electricity companies.

The Managing Director of BIPC, Raymond Asemakaha, expressed the state’s need for a power generation plant that would transform the region and stimulate economic activities.

“For us, we know that one of the things that stimulate the economy is when you have enough power,” Asemakaha stated.

“So we are looking for options to ensure that the state generates its power and shares it with its communities.”

BIPC has requested electricity company Remedy Earth to set up a pilot plant in the state.

Asemakaha emphasized the importance of seeing the company’s capabilities before recommending them to the governor.

Remedy Earth’s regional head for Africa, Peace Obichere, assured that the company was ready to execute the pilot plant within nine months.

Obichere further stated that the company possessed the required manpower and technical know-how to execute the project, adding that they would pull the necessary resources to bring the plant to fruition.

With this ambitious move, the Benue State government is taking a proactive approach to address the energy needs of its communities, paving the way for significant socio-economic growth.
