Benue Community Guards Arrest Three for Diesel Theft at Construction Site

The Benue State Community Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) have apprehended three individuals suspected of stealing diesel from the TRIACTA Construction Company site in New GRA, Makurdi.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday night as they attempted to transport the siphoned diesel into a waiting vehicle near the residence of the state governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia.

The BSCVG Commander, Captain Ayuma Ajovbi (rtd), reported that the operatives discovered the suspects siphoning diesel from heavy-duty trucks into jerrycans.

He described the act as sabotage and highlighted the training and efficiency of the BSCVG operatives, which led to the successful arrest.

Emmanuel Ogbu, the Intelligence Officer of the BSCVG, revealed that one of the suspects, Mohammed Adamu, attempted to bribe the operatives with N70,000.

The chief security officer of the construction company, Benjamin Atsaga, stated that the company had been facing similar issues due to the involvement of some staff members, who were subsequently dismissed.

Two of the suspects, Mohammed Adamu and Peter Zaki, claimed they were invited to the site by staff members of the construction company. The BSCVG is currently tracking four other suspects involved in the theft.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges of theft and corruption in Nigeria and highlights the role of community volunteer groups in maintaining security and order.

It also raises questions about the management and oversight of construction sites and the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents.

The suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution after the investigation is concluded.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation between security operatives and the community in tackling crime and ensuring the safety and security of public and private property.
