Police in Benue State have arrested 11 suspects linked to cult killings in Makurdi. The attacks happened early Monday morning across several streets in the High Level area.
Armed gunmen stormed a residential building around 2:30am that day. They yanked young men from their rooms and opened fire on them.
A landlord raised the alarm after witnessing the invasion. Police responded quickly and deployed detectives to investigate.
DSP Udeme Edet, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday. She noted that preliminary findings pointed to cult-related violence.
According to Edet, a gang led by someone known as "Odinaka" carried out the operation. The suspect has a history of similar attacks in Makurdi.
"Preliminary investigation reveal that it was a cult related killing done by a team suspected to have been led by one 'Odinaka' who has become notorious for such activities," Edet stated. She said 11 people had been taken into custody so far.
Authorities are still hunting for Odinaka, the alleged ringleader. He remains at large as of Monday.
Edet promised more information soon. She said a detailed press release would follow on the case.
