Bauchi LP Denounces 19 Northern States Forum, Calls it Non-Existent

The Bauchi State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has issued a statement distancing itself from the Forum of the Nineteen States, including the FCT Chairmen and Secretaries, declaring it as non-existent.

In a joint statement, the acting Chairman Mohammed Sabitu Aliyu and acting Secretary Danlami Idi Danladi refuted claims made by certain individuals who claimed to represent the Northern States’ executives.

According to the statement, the individuals in question were not recognized as leaders and were even removed from their positions due to actions against the party’s interests.

Mohammed Sabitu Aliyu stated, “The attention of Bauchi State Labour Party Executives has been drawn to the news broadcast by AIT and some online and social media in which a few individuals claimed to be the Northern States’ Chairmen and Secretaries made some statements which are hereby refuted.”

The acting Chairman emphasized that the individuals were not the executives of the 19 Northern States and that their spokeswoman had been deposed from her position due to her antiparty activities.

He also characterized the individuals as “a group of disgruntled, frustrated, and treacherous people who worked against the party’s efforts in times of need; furthermore, they are political power mongers seeking attention through such malicious and baseless claims in the name of the northern region.”

The statement also affirmed its support for the National Working Committee’s decision to zone the presidential flag bearer position to the southern region in 2027.

The controversy surrounding the forum’s legitimacy highlights the internal challenges and divisions within the Labour Party.

It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the party’s future and its role in Nigerian politics.
