Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the killing of Nigerian soldiers who were on official assignment in Ughelli, Delta state.

In a statement on his official X account, the former vice president said that there could never be justification for the premeditated killing of soldiers who were on legitimate assignment.

Atiku expressed grief over the loss of the soldiers, who were not only Nigerians but also had families and dependants.

He urged the military to exercise restraint in its response to the attack and recommended that the culprits be arrested and prosecuted.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage among the Nigerian public, with many calling for justice and a swift response from the government and security agencies.

In a similar reaction, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, also condemned the killing and described it as barbaric.

He called on the government and security agencies to do everything possible to ensure that the killers are arrested and prosecuted.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Nigeria and underscores the need for a comprehensive and effective response from the government and security agencies to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
