Atiku Calls for Thorough Investigation into Alleged N3 Trillion Budget Padding in Nigeria

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for a thorough investigation into the allegations of N3 trillion budget padding in Nigeria’s 2024 budget.

The allegations, which have rocked the Nigerian Senate, have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the nation’s annual planning and development.

Atiku’s call for an investigation comes on the heels of a fiscal policy analytics and advocacy organization confirming a lack of transparency within the 2024 Appropriation Act.

The sudden suspension of a whistle-blower senator without adequate explanation has further fueled the crisis, leaving many questions unanswered.

The PDP presidential candidate has demanded an immediate and comprehensive investigation into these allegations, emphasizing that any deviation from serving the people’s interests will be met with strong opposition.

He argues that denials are unacceptable and that the suspension of one senator cannot silence accusations of corruption and illegal fiscal spending by the federal government.

Given the current hardships faced by the Nigerian people, a padded budget is only exacerbating existing issues such as hunger, poverty, insecurity, energy crises, foreign exchange instability, and the rising cost of living.

The Tinubu administration must address these high-profile corruption cases transparently and demonstrate a commitment to good governance.

The National Assembly, as representatives of the people, must also fulfill their constitutional obligation to legislate for the peace, order, and good governance of the nation without colluding with corrupt elements.

Failure to do so would only confirm the government’s complicity in official malpractice.

The call for a thorough investigation into the alleged budget padding in Nigeria’s 2024 budget highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in public administration.

It is crucial for the government to address these allegations and demonstrate a commitment to good governance, as the well-being of the Nigerian people depends on it.
