University lecturers are spoiling for a fight with the government. The Academic Staff Union of Universities announced this on Monday, accusing authorities of bungling the December 2025 agreement.

ASUU says implementation has been flawed and one-sided so far. The union listed several grievances that remain unresolved.

These include three-and-a-half months of withheld salaries. Promotion arrears and salary shortfalls from the IPPIS system also feature on their list.

Unremitted third-party deductions are another complaint. So are arrears of 25 to 35 percent wage awards.

The union's National Executive Council met in Yola to discuss the standoff. Prof.

Christopher Piwuna read their position to journalists in Abuja on Monday.

According to him, frustration is mounting among academics nationwide. Government inaction on lecturer welfare is creating dangerous anger, he warned.

"This could spark a new round of strikes if nothing changes," Piwuna noted. He called on patriots and government officials to intervene immediately.

ASUU remains willing to negotiate with authorities, the professor added. But the union's patience is wearing thin.

An emergency NEC meeting will convene within weeks to reassess matters. Leadership will decide on next steps at that gathering.

The union wants full implementation of the agreement. It also demands resolution of all other outstanding issues affecting members.

Lecturers argue that delays harm students, parents, and the nation broadly. Their message to government: act now before tensions boil over completely.
