Arewa Group Urges Nigerians to Demand Accountability from Leaders Amid Budget Controversy

The Arewa Movement for Good Governance (AM2G) expressed disappointment with the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the ongoing budget controversy, urging citizens to demand accountability from their leaders.

The movement’s convener, Dr. Usman Bugaje, highlighted several allegations surrounding the 2024 budget, including claims that the budget box was empty during its presentation and that National Assembly members were offered bribes to approve it.

Bugaje also mentioned the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi after he accused the budget of being padded, suggesting that the National Assembly was attempting to avoid addressing the issue.

Bugaje criticized the Senate’s silence on the matter, calling it a conspiracy and lamenting the stifling of evidence presentation.

He emphasized the crisis in Nigeria’s democracy, which he believes is failing to foster development and is contributing to the impoverishment of its citizens.

According to him, many Nigerians have fallen below the poverty line and into multi-dimensional poverty.

The Arewa group also pointed out the lack of hope for the country’s youth, citing issues with education and employment opportunities.

They argued that Nigeria’s democracy is stripping its people of their dignity, honor, and humanity.

As the controversy surrounding the 2024 budget continues, the Arewa Movement for Good Governance urges Nigerians to demand accountability from their leaders and to hold them responsible for their actions.

The movement believes that only through increased transparency and responsibility can Nigeria’s democracy regain its value, meaning, and shine.
