The Action Peoples Party in Imo State is ready to compete in the 2027 general elections and confident it will emerge victorious. During a press briefing in Owerri, party chairman Chief Ernest Njesi disclosed that all candidates have been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The party's slate comprises three Senate hopefuls, ten House of Representatives candidates, and 27 aspirants for the Imo State House of Assembly. Njesi told journalists the party intends to intensify grassroots mobilisation across Imo communities to promote its message and win voter support.
The APP has also announced that its state leader, Dr Chima Matthew Amadi, will seek the Imo East Senate seat in 2027. According to Njesi, Dr Amadi plans to subsequently pursue the governorship in a later electoral cycle.
Party leaders condemned what they characterised as an assault on their state office and the vandalisation of campaign materials. The APP alleged that political rivals orchestrated the incident and vowed the attacks would not discourage participation in elections.
Amb. Steve Nnadi, the party's publicity secretary, appealed to media professionals to report events fairly without intimidation.
He urged Imo voters to back the APP in 2027, saying the party has demonstrated its readiness for the contest.
The party believes it possesses the capacity to govern and rejected suggestions that political harassment would deter its electoral activities. "The APP is telling residents of Imo State it is set for 2027, has fielded its candidates, has confidence in victory, and refuses to be cowed by alleged political attacks," Nnadi said.
