Senator Garba Musa Maidoki and 46 other aspirants have been barred from the APC's senatorial primary race. The ruling party announced the disqualifications on Monday through its screening process.
Maidoki represents Kebbi South at the National Assembly. He originally won his seat under the PDP before crossing to the APC last year.
Felix Morka, the APC's national publicity secretary, confirmed the screening committees followed all established procedures. He noted that the exercise was conducted in line with party guidelines.
But Maidoki had already quit the party days before the disqualification list dropped. In a May 14 letter to his ward chairman, he announced his exit.
He blamed lingering internal tensions within the APC for his decision. According to him, the party's crisis had derailed his political aspirations.
"I write to formally notify you of my withdrawal from the APC, Rafin Zuru Ward," Maidoki stated in his resignation letter. His ward is located in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Tein Jack-Rich, a former presidential hopeful, also faced disqualification from Rivers West senatorial contention. He wasn't cleared to participate in the upcoming primary elections either.
