APC Chieftains Accuse Wike of Destroying FCT Political Structure with Lopsided Appointments

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have voiced their concerns about the recent appointments made by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The APC chieftains have accused the former Rivers State Governor of being obsessed with engaging his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyalists at the expense of their members, thus destroying the political structure of the FCT.

At a media parley held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists’ secretariat in Abuja on Monday, the APC leaders urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to caution Wike before he further damages the nation’s capital political structure.

Wike’s recent appointments of former Chairman of the PDP in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers, Chidi Amadi, as Chief of Staff; erstwhile state Chairman of the PDP, Felix Obuah, as Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council; Michael Chinda as Senior Special Adviser on Land, Urban and Regional Planning; and Barivure Fred, another senior aide on Environment and Waste Management, have been met with opposition from the APC members.

These appointments, among others, have been a source of frustration for the APC members, especially the indigenes of the FCT.

Abdulwahab Ekekhide, an APC chieftain in the FCT, criticized the appointments, describing them as biased against the FCT members of the Party who contributed to the electoral victory of President Tinubu.

He said, “We want to let President Bola Tinubu know that Nyesom Wike is killing the political structure of the APC in FCT due to his lack of regard for the party and its leadership.”

APC Youth Leader in the FCT, Isaac David, also threatened that if Wike continued denying party members their rights after working hard for the President’s electoral victory, they might be forced to withdraw their support for the President.

He stated, “The minister’s PVC wasn’t registered in the FCT here.

The same goes for the PDP loyalists and supporters he is bringing into Abuja for appointments. If they are ignoring us, the indigenes and the FCT APC members, we will see who will vote him back in 2027.”

The APC leaders have called on President Tinubu to take action to prevent further damage to the political structure of the FCT.

They argue that successive ministers have imported strangers who do not belong to any political ward, polling unit, or have voting rights as appointees, which has led to the party’s struggles in the FCT.

The situation has raised concerns about the future of the APC in the FCT and the potential impact on the party’s performance in the 2027 area council elections.
