Samuel Anyanwu believes his time has come. The PDP National Secretary declared in Owerri that he should lead Imo State next.
Anyanwu launched the 'Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy' at an event in the state capital. 'Sam Daddy' is his political nickname.
He noted that three colleagues from the old PDP had already governed Imo. Those leaders were Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim, and Emeka Ihedioha.
"We were four strong PDP members," Anyanwu told supporters. "All three of them have ruled Imo state.
I have remained myself."
According to him, fairness demands his opportunity when voters go to the polls in 2027. He appealed to other aspirants to step aside for him.
"I believe the other contestants will make space for me," he said. Anyanwu acknowledged that political power isn't handed out freely.
"It's true that power isn't given, it's taken," he noted. "I'll stay focused on the ball."
The PDP chieftain expressed confidence in his party's growth across Nigeria. He told reporters the party is gaining thousands of new members daily.
"The PDP is becoming stronger and more united today," Anyanwu said. "Our number is also growing by thousands."
He stressed that Imo people trust the PDP above all others. In his words, the party won't disappoint the state.
"PDP is the only party our people really trust," he declared. "We won't let the people of Imo down."
Anyanwu tasked his movement's members to mobilize support in rural communities. He urged them to work with dedication and commitment.
Election monitoring became a key focus of his address. Anyanwu warned the PDP would station observers at every polling station.
"There's nothing they know that we do not know," he stated. "There's nothing they possess that we don't already have."
Anyanwu alleged that opposition parties would attempt electoral manipulation. But he insisted the PDP was ready for whatever tactics they employ.
"Their tricks won't work this time," he vowed. PDP agents would safeguard ballots until results are declared, he added.
Anyanwu mentioned two support structures working on his behalf. These are 'Divine Mandate' and the 'Mass Movement for Sam Daddy.'
He called on all groups to unite behind his candidacy. "Work together with everyone to make sure the Imo people are involved," he urged his supporters.
