Akpabio, Governors, and Prominent Figures Pay Tribute to the Late Herbert Wigwe and Family

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and various governors, including Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Senator Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, and Pastor Eno Umo of Akwa Ibom State, joined other prominent figures to pay their last respects to the late Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba, and their son, Chizi.

The funeral service was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lion of Judah Parish, in Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State.

The Wigwe family tragically passed away on February 9, 2024, in a helicopter crash near California, USA.

Their loss has been deeply felt by the Ikwerre Ethnic nationality in Rivers State, Nigeria, and the world at large.

Among the attendees were former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and chairman of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Barrister Chiedu Ebie.

Other notable figures present included the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, former governor of Ogun State, Ibekunle Amosun, former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.

Additionally, former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, and a Board member of NDDC, Chief Tony Okocha, were also in attendance.

Chief Okocha, who is also the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as ‘one death too many’ and a devastating blow to humanity.

He offered his prayers for the family and friends left behind, hoping that they find the strength to cope with their grief.

The funeral service served as a solemn reminder of the impact that the Wigwe family had on the lives of those around them and the profound void left in their absence.
