Aiyedatiwa Declares Governorship Bid in Ondo: A New Era for the Sunshine State

Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the incumbent Governor, formally declared his intention to contest the upcoming gubernatorial election on Tuesday, March 13, 2024.

This announcement comes after the unfortunate demise of the former Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), who passed away in Germany during a protracted illness.

Aiyedatiwa, sworn-in as the Governor on December 27, 2023, wasted no time in expressing his desire to continue the legacy of his predecessor, who had always wished for him to succeed as the next Governor.

Aiyedatiwa’s declaration was met with overwhelming support from the citizens and party faithfuls of the state, who have been rallying behind his leadership since his assumption of office.

The Governor’s primary aim is to contest and win the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress scheduled to take place in April this year, and the major election on November 16, 2024.

In his speech, Aiyedatiwa emphasized his commitment to the development of the Sunshine State, citing his experience as a former Representative of Ondo State on the Board of NDDC, one-time Deputy Governor, and three times Acting Governor under the late Akeredolu.

He highlighted the numerous achievements of his administration within the short period of his tenure, including the revival of abandoned projects, payment of outstanding salary arrears to workers, and the settlement of substantial amounts from the gratuities of pensioners.

These initiatives have restored the confidence of the people in the administration, which was previously shaken by anti-democratic elements.

Aiyedatiwa’s vision for the state is to emplace a State Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (SEEDS), which aims to harmonize all plans for economic development.

The strategy focuses on key developmental issues to alleviate poverty, banish hunger, and make Ondo State self-sustaining.

He stressed that his mission is to create wealth, generate employment, and improve the standard of living for the people of the state.

The declaration of Aiyedatiwa’s governorship bid marks the beginning of a new chapter in the political history of Ondo State, with the promise of continued progress and development.

As the people of the state eagerly await the upcoming elections, the political landscape is set to witness a thrilling contest between the various candidates vying for the coveted position of Governor.
