Air Peace Chairman Raises Alarm: Foreign Airlines’ Plot to Crash Airfares and Eject Air Peace from Nigeria-UK Route

Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by foreign airlines to crash airfares and eject Air Peace from the Nigeria-London route.

He accused foreign carriers of forming an “unspoken alliance” to lower pricing on the route, which he believes is aimed at sending Air Peace out of international operations.

Onyema made the revelation during a TV appearance, stating that foreign airlines are deliberately frustrating Air Peace in all ways possible.

He warned that if foreign airlines succeed in their plan, Nigeria would suffer a significant financial loss, with the strain on the naira becoming even more severe.

He pointed out that the price of international flight tickets on the Lagos-London route had dropped from as high as N3.5m for an economy ticket to N1.2m as Air Peace commenced operations on the route.

This led to foreign airlines such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Qatar Airways reducing their prices to remain competitive.

However, Onyema believes that this price reduction is a part of a larger conspiracy to push Air Peace out of international operations.

He cited recent difficulties faced by his airline at Gatwick Airport, including ground handling and space allocation issues.

The Air Peace boss called on other Nigerian airlines to join the Nigeria-UK route to break the monopoly that foreign carriers have enjoyed on the route for years.

He emphasized that international aeropolitics is a dirty game, but someone must pay the price to challenge the status quo.

As the situation unfolds, the Nigerian government and aviation authorities must closely monitor developments to ensure a fair and competitive market for airlines operating on the Nigeria-UK route.

The outcome of this alleged conspiracy could have far-reaching implications for the Nigerian economy and the aviation industry as a whole.
