Adeleke Takes Action Against Sexual Violence in Osun State with Mobile Courts

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has established an action committee to implement the resolution of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and work in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.

The action committee, which includes the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. (Mrs.) Ayobola Awolowo, and other key state officials, will focus on establishing mobile courts dedicated to addressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence, child abuse, and the expedited trial of women and children held in correctional facilities.

Governor Adeleke has also directed the Justice Ministry to prepare an executive order to free all unjustly incarcerated women in the state, demonstrating his commitment to protecting women’s rights during the season of Lent, Easter, and Ramadan.

The committee’s formation is a direct response to the joint meeting between Governor Adeleke and the Federal Minister of Women Affairs, with the goal of implementing the communique and ensuring swift and effective action against sexual violence in the state.

This initiative by Governor Adeleke sets a strong precedent for other states to follow, emphasizing the importance of addressing and preventing sexual violence, and promoting the protection of women’s rights.
