ADC Urges South East Governors to Conduct Local Government Elections, Blames Insecurity on Non-Conduct

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the governors of the South East to quickly conduct local government elections in their states, attributing the growing insecurity in the region to the non-conduct of these elections.

During its South East leadership retreat in Awka, Anambra State, the party emphasized the urgent need for the governors to fulfill their responsibilities and warned that failure to do so would result in legal action, beginning with the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma.

National Vice Chairman, South East, of the ADC, Chilos Godsent, stressed that conducting local government elections would provide opportunities for the region’s youths, who could serve as chairmen, councillors, and supervisory councilors.

He argued that the lack of these opportunities has led many of these youths to engage in criminal activities.

Godsent also criticized the practice of appointing sole administrators and transition committee chairmen as a means for governors to loot local government funds.

The retreat aimed to assess the party’s performance, identify challenges, and propose solutions for the way forward.

ADC’s chairman in Anambra State, Patrick Obianyor, emphasized the importance of gathering key South East leaders to evaluate the party’s progress and address its shortcomings.

ADC’s call for local government elections underscores the party’s commitment to promoting good governance, accountability, and youth engagement in the South East.

The party’s leadership believes that addressing these issues is crucial for tackling insecurity and fostering development in the region.
