The African Democratic Congress has called for a detailed breakdown of the N7.13 trillion marked as "energy security" spending in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited's 2024 audited accounts. The opposition party wants to know who benefited, what payments were made, and what results the money produced.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's national publicity secretary, released a statement on Monday demanding full transparency from the oil firm. He said the oil company must disclose the names of contractors, the amounts paid out, the outcomes delivered, and whether any independent audit took place.
The ADC also raised questions about Tompolo's involvement in the spending, noting that his Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited holds a major pipeline surveillance contract. The party questioned his reported role as a mobiliser for President Bola Tinubu's re-election push.
The party highlighted that the N7.13 trillion figure represents a jump of almost 14,800% from the N48 billion pipeline surveillance contract that previously sparked public anger. "Nigerians deserve answers on what caused such a massive jump and, critically, what the nation gained in exchange," the ADC stated.
The party warned that public money meant for pipeline protection must not be channelled into political campaigns. "The larger the spending, the greater the duty to justify it," the ADC said.
