Ahead of Monday's presidential primaries, the African Democratic Congress is calling on all party members to maintain peace and unity.
In a statement released Sunday in Abuja, party National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi made the appeal to aspirants, leaders, and members alike.
Abdullahi described the upcoming exercise as a defining moment for the party and Nigerians seeking fresh political alternatives.
"The ADC remains proud to stand today as the only truly democratic party in Nigeria, because it is the only political party whose choice of presidential candidate is determined through open primaries," the statement read.
How members conduct themselves before, during, and after the exercise will reflect the leadership culture the party wishes to promote, according to him.
He urged aspirants, their supporters, delegates, and party faithful to act peacefully, responsibly, and with dignity throughout the process.
"This election must reflect the values we claim to represent as a party committed to transparency, internal democracy, national unity, and the rule of law," Abdullahi stated.
Political disagreements are natural, he noted, but rebuilding Nigeria and restoring public confidence in leadership must remain the core focus.
Once the exercise concludes, there'll be no winners or losers within the ADC family, according to him. Everyone should emerge stronger and more united, he added.
"The ultimate objective is to offer Nigerians the competent and credible leadership they deserve," Abdullahi noted.
Party officials assured members that arrangements are in place for a free, fair, transparent, and credible primary process.
"History will judge us, not merely by who emerges as candidate, but by how we conduct ourselves in this defining moment," the statement concluded.
The party called on every member to rise to meet the occasion. It's a critical test of their democratic credentials, officials said.
