Reno Omokri Applauds Tinubu’s Subsidy Removal and FX Reforms, Says Nigeria is Moving Forward

Former presidential aide and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Reno Omokri, praises President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy and reform the foreign exchange market.

According to Omokri, the move to end the subsidy regime was long overdue, and it should have been done by former President Muhammadu Buhari instead of borrowing to pay over ₦400bn monthly for the scheme.

He highlighted the positive results of the policy change, noting that fuel importation had dropped by 50%, and local refining had increased by 8%.

Omokri emphasized that all three major candidates in the 2023 presidential election, including PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, had promised to remove the petrol subsidy.

He argued that it was intellectually dishonest for anyone to claim that Nigeria was collapsing due to these reforms, as they were necessary to address the country’s economic challenges.

Despite the hardships experienced by many Nigerians as a result of the reforms, Omokri maintained that Nigeria remains a lawful country and that the rule of law has not collapsed.

He called on the Labour Party and its supporters to accept their loss in the 2023 presidential election and work together to support the country’s progress.

As the Tinubu administration continues to implement its economic policies, Omokri expressed optimism about the future, stating that “Nigeria is moving forward right now, and we have to support Nigeria.”
