Port Harcourt Airport to Relocate Businesses for Improved Serenity

The Port Harcourt International Airport has recently announced its plans to relocate concessionaires and other mini-businesses from the operational areas of its domestic wing.

The move is aimed at enhancing the serenity, security, and standards within the airport’s operational areas.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the airport, Ngozi Onyeanwunna-Nwosu, the relocation is a part of the management’s efforts to give the airport environment a facelift.

She also emphasized that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) always prioritizes public interest in its policies and implementation.

The airport management has been notifying affected business operators about the planned relocation since November 2023.

They have also assured that they have relocated businesses to a better place, keeping in mind the human aspect of the situation.

Affected operators are encouraged to pick their new shop spaces at the designated location.

However, some of the affected operators have expressed concerns about the distance from their target customers, which might undermine smooth business activities at the new site.

Mark Tammy, a food vendor at the airport, said that many of his customers would find it difficult to patronise him at the proposed site because of the distance from the domestic waiting area.

Janete Ikem, a computer operator at the premises, added that the relocation would further aggravate hardships on affected individuals, considering the current state of the country’s economy.

She also mentioned that the airport is indirectly forcing them to build new stalls for themselves.

The Port Harcourt International Airport is taking necessary steps to improve the overall experience and security for its users.

While this may cause some temporary inconvenience for businesses, it is ultimately aimed at enhancing the airport’s environment and ensuring that it operates at the highest standards.
