Court Orders FAAN to Account for Airports’ Toll Gate Revenue Since 2015

The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, ordered the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to provide details on the revenue generated from toll gates and parking lots fees in all federal government-owned airports across the country and how much it remitted from January 2015 till January 2024.

Justice Ibrahim Ahmad Kala declared that FAAN’s refusal to accede to the Registered Trustees of the Centre for Law & Civil Culture’s freedom of information requests in 2021 and 2022 was a gross violation of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011.

The court ruled that FAAN must provide the requested information within three months, as the applicant had successfully demonstrated that the agency had not met the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act.

The case, which was filed in 2022, sought to compel FAAN to provide details on the annual revenue generated from toll gates and parking lots in each of the federal government-owned airports across the country since 2015.

This ruling underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in public institutions and the role of the Freedom of Information Act in promoting good governance.
