#EndSARS: Police authority still engages in unlawful arrest, detention – Delta Judicial Panel member

A frontline #EndSARS crusader and member of the Delta State Judicial Panel of Inquiry into #EndSARS/PoliceBrutality, Mr Harrison Gwamnishu said that despite the crisis the wake of the youth protest against police brutality, police authority still engaging in unlawful arrest and detention across the country.

 

He expressed regrets that the federal law enforcement agency is yet to learn salient lessons from the nation-wide #EDSARS protest that shutdown Nigeria for more than 10 days, a situation he say is worrisome.

 

According to Gwamnishu, the police authority in Delta are now raiding people randomly and parading them as hoodlums, charging them for Arson and Murder without legal representation.

 

“This is unacceptable. A fashion designer was picked up in Asaba and now he’s a tenant in Ogwashi Uku Prison, leaving his 8 months pregnant wife all alone.

 

“A security guard was sent to buy fuel and now charged for Arson and Murder.

 

“During the action, (protests and looting scenes) our police were not seen arresting looters. Two days after the looting and destruction, you pack people and charge them for Arson and Murder that happened two days ago before their arrest.

 

Gwamnishu called on civil society organisation, the media and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Delta State to investigate and “report this unjust and systematic failure we have”, he stressed.
