Four suspected kidnappers were shot dead in the early hours of Tuesday during a coordinated operation by a joint team of police officers, local hunters, vigilante members, and anti-cult volunteers along the Abraka Railway axis. One AK-47 rifle and thirteen rounds of live ammunition were recovered at the scene.
According to a statement signed by SP Edafe Bright, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, the operation was launched around 3:00 a.m. following “credible intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers” in the area.
“During the gun duel, four of the suspected kidnappers were shot and later gave up the ghost while others escaped with gunshot injuries,” the statement said. Preliminary investigations revealed that a recently rescued kidnapping victim identified one of the deceased suspects as the leader of the gang that abducted him.

Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the joint operatives for their bravery and swift response, urging them to “sustain the tempo.” He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to community collaboration and proactive efforts in combating crime.
“We remain committed to deepening community engagement and sustaining momentum against crime,” CP Olufemi stated.
