Coordinators of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and President Generals of all Urhobo communities have declared the company the largest employer in Urhobo land, with over 3,500 youths engaged in pipeline surveillance jobs across 88 communities in Delta Central.
At a press briefing held in Ughelli, attended by over 2,000 Tantita employees, the leaders passed a unanimous vote of confidence on Tantita’s management and operations. They also rejected the call by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) for the federal government to cancel the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to the company, describing the call as misguided and unrepresentative of Urhobo interests.
According to the leaders, Tantita currently employs youths from all oil-bearing communities in 16 Urhobo kingdoms, making it the highest private-sector employer of Urhobo indigenes. “Every kilometre of pipeline in Urhobo land is protected 100% by Urhobo youths,” they said.
“Tantita’s presence spans from Iwhremeragha to Unenurhie, from Kokori to Oguname-Olomu, and from Ugbomro to Arhavwarhien,” the Coordinators stated. “Close to 4,000 indigenes earn monthly wages through Tantita, contributing to community stability and economic empowerment.”
They emphasized that for over two years, Tantita has significantly reduced oil theft, illegal refining, and environmental degradation in the region, with no complaints from any host community. They credited this to Tantita’s technological capacity and efficient leadership.
Addressing the UPU publication that claimed a “General Assembly” had rejected Tantita’s operations, the Coordinators challenged its legitimacy, demanding proof of such a meeting.
They also condemned any attempt to use cultural platforms for personal gain. “All Urhobos must rise against this abuse and protect the unity and economic interests of our people,” the statement added.
Chief Ukpebitere, President General of Evwreni Community, speaking on behalf of other PGs, warned against actions that could divide Urhobo communities and disrupt the partnership with Tantita. He called for continued support for the company.
The highlight of the event was a vote of confidence passed on High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, Kestin Pondi, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, and the Tantita management team. The motion, moved by Urhobo Youth Council President Mr. Godspower Enerho, was unanimously adopted.
