Just two months into Nigeria's competitive e-commerce landscape, 2Clicks Nigeria claims it has crossed 100,000 downloads and accumulated more than 100,000 active product listings. The platform says this swift expansion demonstrates strong appetite among small business owners for affordable online selling channels.
The company's growth stems from its core offering: sellers can list products without paying any fees. This approach is intensifying rivalry in Nigeria's booming digital marketplace sector, where most competing platforms impose listing or subscription charges.
Bakare Olaoluwa, country manager of 2Clicks Nigeria, spoke at a media event in Lagos about the platform's achievements. Within three weeks of launching publicly, it reached Google's top 10 shopping applications in the country, he noted.
"We believe millions of Nigerian entrepreneurs should not have to pay compulsory listing fees before they can sell online," Olaoluwa told reporters. He added that the company aims to bring down the cost of digital commerce and make it accessible to all business owners.
2Clicks was designed to tackle a major obstacle facing micro, small and medium-sized enterprises by offering unlimited free product listings alongside access to professional digital marketing tools. Sellers can pay for optional premium services to boost product visibility, but core marketplace features remain free, according to Olaoluwa.
The strategy helps businesses reach customers beyond their immediate areas without spending heavily on digital marketing, he explained. The platform also prioritizes buyer and seller safety by requiring all vendors to verify their identity using either the National Identification Number or Bank Verification Number before approval.
Sellers who complete extra verification steps receive verified badges, and buyers can report questionable listings through the customer support system, Olaoluwa said. The marketplace also features direct WhatsApp messaging between buyers and sellers to ease communication.
High-definition photos and video product listings are supported to help customers make better purchasing choices, he added. Sellers gain access to free business analytics, location-based searches and property mapping tools designed to increase visibility and engagement.
Fresh entrants offering free listing models could reshape Nigeria's e-commerce competition by pushing established platforms to reconsider their pricing and seller recruitment approaches. With MSMEs representing over 90 percent of Nigeria's businesses and driving significant employment and economic growth, lowering digital commerce costs is increasingly seen as essential for boosting participation in the digital economy.
2Clicks will need to convert its expanding user base into engaged buyers and sellers while sustaining its free-access model to maintain momentum as it grows.
