Ahead of 2027 elections, an All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Olorogun Fred Majemite, has declared that aside from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, no other political seat is guaranteed going into the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists at his residence in Ughelli, Majemite stressed that all elective offices, from the National Assembly to local positions, will be open for free and fair competition, debunking rumors of automatic tickets or internal zoning deals within the APC.
“To my knowledge, the only positions guaranteed for a return are those of the President and the Governor. A sitting President and Governor must secure their tickets — there are no vacancies in the Aso Rock Villa and Osadebe House in Asaba,” Majemite asserted.
He clarified that the tradition of two-term allowances applies exclusively to the executive arm, urging other aspirants to prepare for competitive primaries.
“As for all other roles, anyone interested is free to run. There have been no imposed candidates,” he said.
While stopping short of a formal declaration, Majemite hinted at a possible Senate run, referencing his earlier attempt at the governorship and reaffirming his dedication to public service.
“Even though I did not win the primaries in 2022, I performed well. I’m no longer getting younger, so I intend to use whatever strength I have to benefit my people,” he said.
He acknowledged that if he contests, he may face the incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone, but expressed optimism that the party would allow leadership rotation within Delta Central.
“If my brother Ede Dafinone decides to enter the race, we may meet on the field… I believe he might step aside to allow others a chance,” Majemite noted.
Despite his personal political aspirations, Majemite emphasized that his top priority remains the re-election of Governor Oborevwori.
“My main focus right now is ensuring Oborevwori returns to Osadebe House in 2027. His influence and leadership extend far beyond that of any senator,” he said.
On the issue of political realignment, Majemite argued that the mass defection from PDP to APC has rendered past party structures obsolete — including property ownership.
“Now that we are all in the APC, there’s no need for the PDP Secretariat. We’ve all transitioned — this kind of shift is unprecedented in Nigeria,” he stated.
He confirmed that Governor Oborevwori has been recognized as the de facto APC leader in Delta State, with support from both old and new party powerbrokers, including Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and Minister Festus Keyamo.
“The Vice President has acknowledged the governor as the new leader of the party. Even Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is a close friend and is being included in strategic discussions,” Majemite revealed.
He concluded with a note of optimism, describing the current political alignment as a unified front capable of delivering a stronger APC in Delta come 2027.
