Yobe State Governor Buni Urges World Bank’s ACReSAL Program to Address Flood Concerns

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has called on the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) program, a World Bank initiative, to collaborate with the state government in finding solutions to mitigate the anticipated flood this rainy season.
Governor Buni emphasized the urgency of addressing the flood threat during a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank and ACReSAL on Tuesday.
In a statement released by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed, Governor Buni stressed the importance of constructing drainage systems to channel flood waters away from towns and communities.
He urged the ACReSAL team to treat the issue as an emergency and a matter of public importance, highlighting the need to protect the state’s infrastructure and communities from potential flood damage.
Ms. Joy Iyanga Agene, the ACReSAL Team Leader, assured Governor Buni of the program’s support in addressing the flood concerns.
She commended the Yobe State government for providing a conducive environment that has allowed projects to thrive in the state.
As part of its mission, the ACReSAL program aims to support the resilience of resettled communities and enhance the sustainability of the state government’s resettlement initiatives.
Governor Buni’s appeal for assistance underscores the importance of collaboration between the World Bank and Yobe State in addressing critical environmental and infrastructural challenges.
The call for action comes at a crucial time as Nigeria prepares for the rainy season, with the potential for flooding posing a significant threat to communities and infrastructure across the country.
The collaboration between the Yobe State government and the World Bank’s ACReSAL program could serve as a model for other states in Nigeria, demonstrating the effectiveness of a united effort in addressing environmental challenges.
As the threat of flood looms, the Yobe State government’s proactive approach and partnership with the World Bank’s ACReSAL program could pave the way for a more resilient and sustainable future for the state’s communities.
