Wike Wins as National PDP Caucus Extends Damagum’s Tenure Amid Leadership Crisis

The national caucus of the party has decided to extend the tenure of the acting National Chairman, Illya Umar Damagum.

This decision came during a meeting held on Wednesday night, where Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, saw his influence prevail.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced that the national caucus had passed a vote of confidence in Damagum, allowing him to continue in office until the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The move is part of efforts to address the ongoing leadership crisis that has been plaguing the PDP.

It comes at a crucial time, as the party is set to hold its 98th NEC meeting today, where various issues of concern to the party and its members are expected to be discussed.

The decision to extend Damagum’s tenure was taken with the aim of ensuring unity and reconciliation within the party.

In a statement, Ologunagba also disclosed that the national caucus had directed the party management to set up a discipline and reconciliation committee to reconcile all members.

This committee is expected to play a crucial role in resolving the internal conflicts that have been causing divisions within the PDP.

The leadership crisis in the PDP has been a major concern for its members, with different factions emerging and attempting to assert their influence over the party’s direction.

One of the key figures in this power struggle has been former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has been at odds with Wike over the control of the party’s machinery.

The decision to extend Damagum’s tenure is seen as a victory for Wike, who has been pushing for his preferred candidate to lead the PDP.

It also signals a potential shift in the balance of power within the party, as the national caucus has demonstrated its willingness to support Wike’s agenda.

As the PDP continues to grapple with internal divisions, the extension of Damagum’s tenure is a significant development that could have far-reaching implications for the party’s future.

It remains to be seen how this decision will affect the ongoing power struggle within the PDP and whether it will help to bring about the much-needed unity and reconciliation among its members.
