Wike Donates 100 Motorcycles to Security Outfits for Improved Crime Fighting in FCT

In a bid to enhance security measures in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has presented 100 motorcycles to security outfits and the Six Area Councils in the FCT.

The event took place on Monday, April 15, 2024, during a ceremony attended by the Area Council Chairmen and Heads of the Security Agencies.

Wike emphasized the importance of utilizing these motorcycles to fight crime strictly in the rural areas, which are more vulnerable due to their remote and difficult terrains.

The distribution of the motorcycles will see each of the six Area Councils receiving 10 motorcycles for their vigilante outfits, while the police will receive 30.

Additionally, the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will each receive 5 motorcycles.

The Minister urged the security agencies to ensure that the motorcycles are used to protect the rural parts of the FCT, emphasizing that the FCT Administration will provide the necessary logistics for those operating the motorcycles.

He also warned against using the motorcycles for commercial purposes and stressed that they should be used in the rural areas, not within the city.

Wike further pledged continued support to the FCT Area Councils and security agencies, mentioning that patrol vehicles would soon be presented to the security agencies to further aid the fight against crime and criminal activities.

He expressed confidence that the motorcycles and future vehicles would help improve the security situation in the nation’s capital.

This initiative highlights the FCT Administration’s commitment to enhancing security measures in the capital and addressing the challenges faced in the rural areas.
