WACOL Director Ezeilo Urges FG to Provide Details on Rescue of Kaduna Schoolchildren

The Executive Director of Women Aid Collective, WACOL, Prof Joy Ezeilo, has called on the Federal Government to provide details on the recent rescue of 137 kidnapped pupils from Kuriga, Kaduna.

While expressing her gratitude for the release of the children and commending the military for their efforts, Ezeilo pointed out inconsistencies in the reports and raised several questions that need to be answered.

Ezeilo highlighted the recurring problem of poor record-keeping, data management, transparency, and information sharing in Nigeria.

She questioned the secrecy surrounding the rescue operation and suggested that there may be more to the story than meets the eye.

She also raised concerns about the lack of arrests and the possibility of ransom payments.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) emphasized the importance of accountability and prosecution of suspects, as well as the need to prevent future abductions and ensure safe schools and cities.

She drew comparisons to the Dapchi and Chibok schoolgirls kidnappings, urging the government to ensure that no child is left behind in the aftermath of these incidents.

Ezeilo’s call for transparency and clarity from the Federal Government underscores the importance of addressing the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria and taking effective measures to protect the lives and well-being of its citizens, particularly the most vulnerable, such as schoolchildren.
